Group Health Insurance

There are several types of Group Health Insurance

1. Blue Plans - 5 or more people
2. True Group - 10 or more people
3. Franchise Group - small group - 5 person minimum

5. Debtor Group - 100 or more people

True Group Insurance

Franchise or Wholesale Group Health Plans

Sometimes small groups do not contain 10 or more employees and hence are not eligible for "True Group" plans. The law provides these types of small groups are eligible for what are called Franchise or Wholesale Group type of plans. These types of plans require a minimum of 5 participants. Unlike True Group Plans, Franchise plans use individual underwriting where every insured individual is evaluated and also gets an indivifdual policy, not a certificate.
